Why Speed Skating?

Speed, technical work and precision come together to make one of the most exciting sports you’ll ever try.  Speed skating is the fastest human-powered sport on the planet…and fast is FUN!

Try it Out!

Have you done some skating and want to try speed skating in the long blades? Our Learn to Speed Skate program is $200 for 8 on-ice sessions.

This fee includes OSSA/SSC membership and use of all necessary equipment.  You just show up in athletic type clothes and give it a go!  

If you decide to stay for the season (converting to our All Ages Development Program), the $200 will be used to discount your season fees.

From the beginning skater through to the accomplished competitor, Kingston Striders offers something for everyone.  

Wee Blades /
Small Blades

For younger skaters wanting to master their edges, we have two Learn to Skate programs using hockey skates.
 
Wee Blades (ages 4-6):
30 minute classes, low skater : coach ratio

Small Blades (skater can skate length of rink solo):
50 minute classes ​

All Ages Development​

Learn to speed skate in our Development group, which skates on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Sign up for a full season or an 8-week introductory trial.

Kids, parents, and grandparents can be on the ice all at the same time, since skaters are broken up into small groups based on size and skill level. A family
favourite!

Advanced​

For those athletes seeking more sport-specific training, the advanced group offers
a combination of optional dryland and on-ice training  on Tuesday, Thursday nights
and Saturday mornings. ​

Masters Fitness​

Some skate for fitness, some skate to compete, all skate for fun. Come join fellow Masters Tuesday and Thursday evenings!  Additional skating opportunity Saturday morning!​
